Chancellor's Update 2-5-21

Celebration of Our 150th Begins Now

February 5, 2021

Dear U of A Employees:

By now, many of you have noticed the launch of the university’s sesquicentennial website, 150.uark.edu. If you haven’t had a chance to take a look, then I encourage you do so. It’s a wonderful tribute to the university’s first 150 years, to the people and events that shaped our identity, our traditions and our impact on Arkansas and the world. You can also find a timeline of upcoming events as well as the Portraits of Progress series, which highlights the lasting impact of pivotal figures in our history, especially those who helped make the university a more diverse and inclusive place.

While a pandemic is not the ideal time to commemorate our 150th anniversary, we intend to make the most of this milestone. Fortunately, most of the celebration will be held this fall and into 2022, when we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of our first day of classes. We’re hopeful we’ll be able to resume larger, public events as the celebration progresses. I believe we should maximize this opportunity to celebrate the university’s accomplishments and use it as a springboard to an even brighter future. Please be on the lookout for more news, features and updates in the weeks and months ahead!

Sincerely,

Joe Steinmetz, Ph.D.

Chancellor
