Fall Semester Kick Off Message from Chancellor Robinson
August 20, 2023
Dear Students,
As we begin the fall semester, I am thrilled to welcome both new and returning students.
What a time to be a Razorback! We’ve set several institutional records recently, and it looks like that trend will continue this semester as we anticipate setting a new record for enrollment as well as a new record for the number of Arkansans in the incoming freshman class. Moreover, our incoming freshman class has an average high school GPA of 3.81, breaking last year’s record of 3.76.
All of you are well positioned for success. Setting enrollment and high school GPA records is wonderful, but graduating is the goal. We’ve increased our graduation rate by 9% in the last decade – meaning more of our students are successfully completing their coursework and graduating in a timely manner. This improvement reflects both the hard work of our students and the efforts of our faculty and staff to better support your success. The university has increased scholarship funding and mentoring, provided more resources to improve teaching effectiveness, expanded health and wellness support, and established the CORD — a one-stop shop for student success. Last year, 8,300 students used the CORD’s free tutoring services, peer academic coaching, supplemental instruction, and Writing Studio to help them meet their academic goals. I hope all of you will take advantage of the CORD and all the other resources we offer to support your success and well-being.
Something I love about this university is our vibrant campus culture. I encourage you to do what you can to help your fellow Razorbacks feel welcome. And, as you prioritize your studies, be sure to make time to engage in campus life outside the classroom. Our campus calendar is a useful resource for learning about upcoming events, many of which are hosted by registered student organizations (RSOs). Joining an RSO is a fantastic way to explore your interests while making friends and memories that will remain with you long after graduation.
When you see me out on campus, please come and say hello! The University of Arkansas is a truly special place with tremendous forward momentum — thank you for being part of that. It is an honor for me to serve as your chancellor. Here’s to an amazing semester.
Sincerely,
