Letter from the Chancellor: October 8, 2020

Dear U of A Community:

Two quick things to share this week:

  • In light of our continuing decline in the number of positive COVID-19 cases (now at 33), we have decided to stay the course following Thanksgiving break. We had been preparing to go completely remote after the Thanksgiving break if needed, but it now appears that we can continue to hold in-person classes safely as we have been doing. That said, students who have health concerns are encouraged to discuss remote options with their instructor. Otherwise, students, faculty and staff should plan to stay the present course.
  • As part of our annual One University week, created to reinforce our larger mission, I will be holding my State of the University address next Thursday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m., which will be livestreamed on the University of Arkansas YouTube channel. I encourage you to join me for an update on our recent successes and ongoing challenges, what we’re looking ahead to, as well as time for Q&A. Provost Robinson will field questions submitted online before and during the address. Send questions by email or through Teams chat to forums@uark.edu.

Please continue to stay safe and send your questions. I want to hear what is on your mind!

Sincerely,

Joe Steinmetz, Ph.D.
Chancellor
