Update from Chancellor Robinson

September 6, 2023

Dear UARK Community,

With the fall semester underway and the Razorbacks set to play their first Fayetteville home game of the 2023 football season this weekend, I have a bit of good news to share. Our preliminary ‘11th day’ numbers indicate that we have 32,140 students enrolled this semester, breaking the previous enrollment record we set last fall. Moreover, both our freshman class and our overall total enrollment include a record number of Arkansas students ever enrolled at the U of A, breaking the marks we set last fall as well. So, we are fulfilling our land-grant duty of uplifting Arkansans through education as never before. And last, but certainly not least, the incoming freshman class has the highest average GPA ever (3.79). A more complete report will be included in tomorrow’s Arkansas News email.

These are just the latest in a series of institutional records we’ve set in recent years. The success we are enjoying would have seemed unlikely, if not downright unimaginable, when I joined the university as an assistant professor of history 24 years ago. The transformation — driven by our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends — is remarkable. This is a special time in our institution’s 152-year history, and I am profoundly grateful for your role in that.

I hope you will join me this Friday, Sept 8th, as we Celebrate Sweet Success with cake and ice cream on the north terrace of the Arkansas Union from 2-3:30 p.m. Then, let’s continue the celebration Saturday afternoon by cheering the Razorbacks to victory. Go Hogs!

Sincerely,

Charles F. Robinson, Ph.D.
